“The talk proved an exceptional hit. Mr Robertshaw’s experience and knowledge ensured a riveting talk. The students found the equipping of the soldier for the Front -from underwear to overcoat, helmet and rifle – particularly interesting. The student model concerned was equally up to the task and delighted in posing as a Great War soldier. Students were continually included in the talk through probing questions.

Exceptional learning for the hour given. He certainly captured the audience from year 7 to 13 and staff alike! The sixth form history students present also found the talk compelling – it was a great experience for them to meet such a noteworthy historian, someone to focus on and look up to.

I do believe all schools would benefit from this presentation. Mr Robertshaw will now be a regular at St John’s – complementing the work in the classroom in an altogether encompassing manner. ”

“Thank you for a very enjoyable and entertaining talk yesterday. We feel, as staff, that we’ve all learned something new and you’ve generated a buzz among our students for medicine in the trenches! I hope you will consider returning next year so we can build upon this success and enable future Year 10 groups to have the same experience.”
