Andy engaged and entertained our students with a thought-provoking talk about medicine in the trenches. His presentation was perfect for the Medicine in the First World War unit of the Edexcel GCSE course. He brought a fascinating range of original and replica artefacts and it was wonderful to see out students respond so enthusiastically to Andy’s presentation. We will be asking him back and would not hesitate to recommend him to other schools.

Medicine in the Trenches (GCSE)

“The talk proved an exceptional hit. Mr Robertshaw’s experience and knowledge ensured a riveting talk. The students found the equipping of the soldier for the Front -from underwear to overcoat, helmet and rifle – particularly interesting. The student model concerned was equally up to the task and delighted in posing as a Great War soldier. Students were continually included in the talk through probing questions.

Exceptional learning for the hour given. He certainly captured the audience from year 7 to 13 and staff alike! The sixth form history students present also found the talk compelling – it was a great experience for them to meet such a noteworthy historian, someone to focus on and look up to.

I do believe all schools would benefit from this presentation. Mr Robertshaw will now be a regular at St John’s – complementing the work in the classroom in an altogether encompassing manner. ”
